Derby and District Astronomical Society

Duffield Carnival
Saturday 27th June 2026

The Derby and District Astronomical Society were invited to the Duffield Carnival for the second year running - on the 27th June 2026. This time we gave our spacious brand new gazebo a test run, and despite taking nearly two hours to assemble it passed with flying colours! The shelter was particularly welcome in the very hot weather and hosted our ever popular and crowd pulling moon globe (signed by several Apollo astronauts), a lunar meteorite, various spacecraft models, and a couple of smart telescopes. We also had the Society's solar scope giving views of the Sun in H-alpha, a scope providing a projected image of the sun, and a couple of Newtonian telescopes, including the Society's 8-inch 'JK-40'. We had a good number of people stopping by our scopes and displays and a big thank you to the DDAS members who helped out this year, and to the Duffield Carnival organisers for inviting us again.
