Jim Sarsgard took this picture of Venus and a thin crescent moon on the evening of the 18th April 2026 using a Canon 1000D camera with a 50 mm lens at f/3.5. The exposure was 1/15 second at ISO 800. The dark portion of the moon is lit up by earthshine.  Image Credit: Jim Sarsgard.

Gary Lambert took this picture of Venus and a thin crescent moon setting over the mountains from Benalmádena in Spain on the evening of the 18th April 2026 using a smart phone camera. The moon's crescent is just setting on the ridgeline, and the dark portion of the moon is lit up by earthshine. Notice that the angle between a line drawn between the moon and Venus and the horizontal (the angle of the ecliptic) is noticeably steeper in Gary's photo from Spain, than those shown above, taken by Tony and Jim from the UK.  Image Credit: Gary Lambert.

Mike Lancaster took this picture of Venus setting low in the western sky on the evening of the 28th February 2026 at 18:23 UT. It was taken using a Google Pixel 8 Pro phone through an upstairs window.  Image Credit: Mike Lancaster.
